This page describes how to follow a Route in OutdoorActive.

A Route is a predefined walk. (In OutdoorActive, not to be confused with a Route, a Track is something you record as you walk).

The video below is about 9 minutes long.

Before you can follow a Route you must have the Route downloaded onto your phone so you are not dependent on phone signal.

The diagram below shows a typical OutdoorActive Route navigation screen. This is on iPhone - other makes may vary.

The OutdoorActive Navigation Screen

You can see the path as a pink line with white direction arrows and the flashing blue circle is your current location.

The aim is to keep your position, the blue dot, on the Route as closely as possible.

Follow the path in the right direction shown by the white arrows or OutdoorActive will keep telling you, you are lost.

The "Track Up" feature means that instead of the map being oriented to North it orients to the direction of the path - try it and you will see for yourself - it is easier but it is also a matter of taste!. On my iPhone this is displayed as an arrow. When the arrow is in the one o'clock position, the map is oriented North. When the arrow is in the 12 o'clock position then the map is oriented to the path, known as "Track Up" or "Track Oriented". If you hold the phone horizontally, the line on which the blue dot resides is pointing in the physical direction you need to take.

You can zoom in/out by putting two fingers on the screen and stretching/contracting - as you do this, the type of map displayed may change.
